it is time to take this shit seriously
October 28, 2008

let’s talk about this. when children take the life of other children; what is learned from these tragedies of hate and viloence? Brandon raised a gun and targeted on Larry at close range, pulling the trigger. shattering the slight hum inside their junior high school’s computer lab, and setting a new course for all of us living. you can learn more about our loss, i might suggest beginning by reading this article written for the los angeles times. clik.
involve, resolve, evolve, re-evolve, and forgive with compassion.
you can do it, gently.
let’s speak about this. 513-720-9455 my name is john.

i have nothing other than this pen
and your envelope to write on.
pardon these words i string
along as i bear down on
your mail. i debated, to go,
or not to go. and with 10 minutes
before the appointment i decide to
free myself and ride my bicycle
to the center. now im in a hurry
and of course the tires are flat.
never fails to be. im sitting in a
triangle shaped stoned surfaced
park. in the center is a 3 tier
fountain and water pours over it.
at my feet a small mouse drinks
water that has collected in the
crevous between the stones and
the mosquitos pierce my skin
through my denim black denum
with black threading. the
sun has set enough now to
trigger the lamps to turn on.
and i feel propelled to tell you
that i am sitting very still.
she sits to my left and speaks
on her mobile phone in echos.
hello hello, what what . . . every
time i look up, out of the park on
the side walk, i fall in love.
i hope this finds you well, and
in great spirits.

be gentle yall, here comes the sun.
April 12, 2008
good morning.
in less than a week from today i will be adventure cycling down the
northern california coast with 5 other cyclists.
i have attached our itinerary detailing the tentative arcata/eureka to
san francisco ride.
as you know, i have not forgotten my dream to ride from san francisco
to santiago chile.
consider this short tour, the shake down bike tour, to be the first
step in this process.
on may 10th 2008 i will begin the ’summer heat seeking bike tour’ – in
the shadow of a butterfly’
this will be an individualist bike adventure from san francisco to
cincinnati to new york city.
in the coming weeks i will start a blog, listing my itinerary for that
trans-america tour.
the brief details are – this bike adventure is a solo-trans-am (all by
myself across united states), taking me through CA, Nevada, Utah,
Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois, KY, OH, WV, VA, DC, Maryland, ok skipping
a few, NYC.
I plan to spend 8 to 10 weeks is cincinnati ohio, working with
artworks cincinnati summer youth programs, make a mess at my mom’s
house, and then continue to NYC, so that i can attend my one week
artist in residence at LPV Community Art Garden, located in the east
village.
for some of you reading this, i apologize for dropping off the radar
screen. i am well, and have devoted focused energy to the unraveling
of my heart (and its healing) mental health therapy. this is
rewarding work, but work at times, weeks, months, difficult to bear
and carry lightly.
i am uncertain at this point when i will return to california, looks
like it might be sometime between oct 2008 – dec 2008.
if my health is well, i will leave nyc on my bicycle heading south to
visit my birthplace along the coast of virginia, and continue south to
miami beach. visiting a network of friends and family, meeting
strangers, new friends at many points in between here and there.
if you would like to receive a phone report from me via a phone tree,
while i am adventure cycling please send me your respective telephone
number, and if i already have it, just tell me to add your name to my
phone tree list.
be gentle yall, here comes the sun.

day laborers targeted by criminals
June 20, 2007
words from oakland artist colleen flaherty via mobile phone.
fruitvale, california-in separate incidents, two day laborers were robbed and murdered by suspected youth gang members. criminals target the latino laborers, based on understanding that day laborers get paid in cash at the end of a work day and are routinely picked up/dropped off at designated intersections on the streets. thus a strategic quick money violent crime is being practiced on our streets.
